  1. How a patient is inducted to DATMS programme?

The process starts with an initial consultation, where the patient is examined according to DATMS. The specific oils and herbs that has to be used during the treatment are decided. A further date for the treatment is decided according to the lunar phase.
  2. Is food an important factor in the success of treatment of MS?

To follow a vegetarian diet is essential during the treatment, herbs that are used in the oils are contraindicated to be used with fish, meat etc.

What is the rate of success in MS with DATMS and why only less people had been treated so far?

As of now (July 2007), 25 patients got treated in our Clinic. They have confirmed diagnosis by MRI and sometimes CSF studies also. 21 patients got good results, there is no progression of MS or new exacerbation in the case of RRMS. 1 patient had an exacerbation . 3 patients discontinued the treatment. The daily treatment of DATMS will take 4-5 hours and need daily observation on the body changes. A patient will needs 180-225 therapy hours in 45 days. And the maximum we take 6-8 patients in one therapy program. A total of 5 therapy program per year are conducted at Bad Schönborn, near to Heidelberg in Germany. And the minimum course of treatment is 3 consecutive years.
  3. Since MS can have exacerbation at any time in the life, can you say that the patients underwent your treatment had real cure or out of the disease processes?

The patient in US (see testimony) is free of all the symptoms since his treatment 8 years back. He is doing his normal works, when I called in Dec 2004 he told that he had gone for cycling for 100 miles in a day and he is leading a normal life with family. His Yale educated neurologist had seen his MRI and asked him that “who told you that you are having MS?
  4. Are there any scientific or clinical studies done on your treatment?

I have to say yes and no, because to study the results of Ayurvedic treatment clinically and to prove how it works, may need collective help from different sources, both financially and expertise in laboratory investigations. More over more patient has to be treated by this method. I cannot say that it is altogether lacking, some of our patients are in constant touch with their neurologists and a few had recommended them to take this treatment. And the recent promise we got from an expert in MS might be path finding.
Success of any treatment lies in the objective and subjective positive results one is getting. So for the time being we concentrate on recording the visible symptoms like gait, walking distance, bladder control etc and invisible symptoms like vertigo, vision disturbances, mood changes that are graded in relation to the experience of the patient’s day today life during the treatment and after.

  5. What all things have to be taken care before and during the treatment?

It is very important to make sure that you are getting adequate and timely sleep. (even if you had problem for sleep, it is important you lie down on the bed for sleep and relax at least by 10 pm). Reduce any exertions to sense organs or body. Like watching TV or using computer more than 15 minutes at a time, long usage of mobile phones and generally one has to come for the treatment with a calm and positive mind.
  6. Does Ayurveda act on the cause of the illness or is it palliating the symptoms?

Yes, not only in the treatment of MS but also in every disease. The concept of treating the individual in Ayurveda makes it clear. An individual is the unique combination of all the systems with nervous system (Vata) at its apex. To make it short, in the treatment of MS we treat the individual nature of the nervous system which is more accurate than treating the nervous system as a whole. In our experience during the treatment of MS, patients show improvement in all the aspects of the disease rather than getting benefit in only certain symptoms of the disease. This is an experience based example to show that the disease is treating the cause of the illness. And also the changes seen in the MRI for those who had completed the treatment, patients free of exacerbations or appearance of any new symptoms are also noteworthy.
  7. You said, that there are no side effects in Ayurveda, but how a therapy without side effects can have any effect ?

This is a continuation of the above answer. Ayurvedic herbs are having synergic action. When you pour water to a wilty plant, it come backs to life by taking the essential quantity of water what is needed for its sustenance. Like wise in Ayurvedic treatment, the therapy will add the component what is lacking in your system quantitatively and qualitatively and which will in turn modify the disease process, which is of course a positive phenomena.
  8. Do clinical studies exist for the effectiveness of Ayurveda in MS ?

I have to say yes and no, because to study the results of Ayurvedic treatment clinically and to prove how it works, may need collective help from different sources both financially and expertise in laboratory investigations. I cannot say that it is altogether lacking, some of our patients are in constant touch with their neurologists. And the recent promise we got from an expert in MS might be path finding.

  9. Do you advise to stop certain other therapies prior to starting the ayurveda therapy?

Fundamentally not. We suggest the patients that they have to talk with their Neurologist and to take his advice on tapering or stopping the medicines. But all of our patient (except one) tend to stop other medicaments by the end of the first course of the therapy. Many are undergoing some non medical therapies like yoga, gymnastics, meditation etc can be continued according to ones own wish.
  10. How far Ayurveda and the culture of the industrial society can be combined? Which changes are needed in the daily life of a working ms-patient in a european big city ?

Any medical system can only deal with the basic nature of a human being. Our computers are capable of giving thousands of information in seconds, supermarkets stalked with innumerable varieties of food stuffs. The list goes on and on. Fundamentally the size and capability of your brain, the size of your stomach or your lung capacity did not increase for tens of thousands of years. So I can say that in this '' chaos''one can remain to his individual nature with some 'watchfulness'.
